How the skills gap assessment works

The assessment moves training planning from course-first to gap-first: business requirement → skill requirement → current capability → gap → training priority. Every result comes from the answers you give, with no benchmarks or AI-generated conclusions.

  1. Skill gap = required proficiency − current proficiency, never below 0
  2. Priority score = skill gap × importance (0–12), used to rank development priorities
  3. Skill readiness = current ÷ required × 100, capped at 100%
  4. Overall readiness = Σ(skill readiness × importance) ÷ Σ importance
  5. Status: gap 0 Requirement Met · gap 1 Development Opportunity · gap 2 Significant Gap · gap 3+ Critical Gap
  6. High-priority gap: priority score of 6 or more

Proficiency scale

1 Awareness · 2 Basic · 3 Working · 4 Advanced · 5 Expert. Importance: 1 Useful · 2 Important · 3 Critical.

Skills gap assessment: frequently asked questions

What is a skills gap assessment?

A skills gap assessment compares the skills a role, team or department needs with the capability it has today. The difference is the skills gap. Rating how important each skill is shows which gaps matter most, so training can be prioritized by business need rather than by course catalog.

How is the skills gap calculated?

For each skill, gap = required proficiency − current proficiency, never below zero. Priority score = gap × importance (0–12). Skill readiness = current ÷ required × 100, capped at 100%. Overall readiness is the importance-weighted average of skill readiness.

Do I need to assess each employee individually?

No. The assessment works at an aggregate level: rate the average current capability of the role, team, department or workforce group. You never enter employee names, emails or individual performance data.

How accurate is the result?

Readiness is a self-assessment estimate based on the information you provide, not an independently validated workforce measurement. Use the optional confidence rating to flag estimates that should be validated through employee assessment, manager review, practical assessment or evidence before major training investment.

Do I need to sign up?

No. The assessment and your full result are free with no login. You only share an email address if you choose to receive the report or request a review, and we verify that address with a one-time code.

Is my data stored?

Your answers stay in your browser while you work. Nothing is sent to Sublime unless you request the report or a review, and your answers are never put in the page URL.
